چکیده

A Global 40-year simulation from 1980 to 2019 was performed with the FinROSE chemistry-transport model based on the use of coupled chemistry GCM-data. The main focus of our analysis is on climatological-scale processes in high latitudes. The resulting trend estimates for the past period (1980–1999) agree well with observation5 based trend estimates. The results for the future period (2000–2019) suggest that the extent of seasonal ozone depletion over both northern and southern high-latitudes has likely reached its maximum. Furthermore, while climate change is expected to cool the stratosphere, this cooling is unlikely to accelerate significantly high latitude ozone depletion. However, the recovery of seasonal high latitude ozone losses will not take 10 place during the next 15 years.

Tropospheric ozone trends at Mauna Loa Observatory tied to decadal climate variability

The GFDL AM3 model is the atmospheric component of a global coupled atmosphere-ocean-land-sea ice model (CM3) [Donner et al., 2011; Griffies et al., 2011; John et al., 2012]. The unique feature of interactive stratosphere-troposphere chemistry and dynamics [Naik et al., 2013; Austin et al., 2013] distinguishes the GFDL AM3 model from most current generation global and regional tropospheric chem...

Evaluation of transport in the lower tropical stratosphere in a global chemistry and transport model

[1] Off-line chemistry and transport models (CTMs) use meteorological information from a general circulation model (GCM) or from a data assimilation system (DAS) to calculate the evolution of stratospheric constituents. Here constituent fields from two CTM simulations are compared with each other and with observations from satellite, aircraft, and sondes to judge the realism of the tropical tra...

Numerical and Synoptic Study of Emission, Transport and Identify Potential Sources of a Severe Dust Storm Over Middle East

One of the powerful tools in dust storms analysis that have recently found extensive application is atmospheric-chemistry numerical modeling. Spatial and temporal distribution of Middle Eastern dust for a severe dust event during 4-8 July 2009 was analyzed by Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry (WRF/Chem) model simulations and remote sensing observations. The HYSPLIT model is applie...

The contribution of ozone to future stratospheric temperature trends

The projected recovery of ozone from the effects of ozone depleting substances this century will modulate the stratospheric cooling due to CO2, thereby affecting the detection and attribution of stratospheric temperature trends. Here the impact of future ozone changes on stratospheric temperatures is quantified for three representative concentration pathways (RCPs) using simulations from the Fi...

An integrated air pollution modeling system for urban and regional scales: 2. Simulations for SCAQS 1987

A new air quality modeling system, the surface meteorology and ozone generation (SMOG) model, is used to investigate the evolution and properties of air pollution in the Los Angeles basin during the southern California air quality study (SCAQS) intensive field program. The SMOG model includes four major components: a meteorological model, a tracer transport code, a chemistry and aerosol microph...
